    Obiettivi formativi

    Il corso vuole dare agli studenti le basi della storia contemporanea favorendo lo sviluppo di una capacità di analisi critica e autonoma.

    Interesse per l’apprendimento della storia contemporanea

    Metodologie didattiche

    Lezioni frontali, ci si avvarrà anche dell’uso di strumenti audiovisivi: saranno diffuse immagini e documentari con interventi di storici e di testimoni dell’epoca, partecipazione a convegni e conferenze.

    Metodi di valutazione

    Orale. La valutazione dell'esame avverrà sulla base della coerenza delle risposte, tenendo conto della completezza delle conoscenze specifiche del candidato, e sulla base della correttezza linguistica.

    Chi segue le lezioni può mettersi d’accordo con il docente su uno dei testi di riferimento indicati a secondo degli argomenti che lo hanno più interessato. Saranno anche distribuite cartine geografiche storiche e altro materiale utile come testi di trattati internazionali o brevi scritti dei protagonisti

    Programma del corso

    Le lezioni verteranno sui seguenti argomenti:

    L’Europa postnapoleonica e il Trattato di Vienna. La restaurazione. La rivoluzione industriale e la nascita dell’industria moderna. L’ondata rivoluzionaria del 1830-1831 e le rivoluzioni del 1848. Il crollo del sistema di Vienna e la nascita degli Stati nazionali unitari italiano e tedesco. La guerra civile americana e l’ascesa degli Stati Uniti. Il grande progresso scientifico, medico e industriale alla fine dell’800. L’imperialismo europeo e l’apogeo delle potenze europee nel mondo. Le difficoltà dell’Impero austro-ungarico, di quello zarista e il declino dell’Impero Ottomano. La Prima Guerra Mondiale e il crollo di 4 Imperi. La rivoluzione sovietica e la nascita dell’Urss. I trattatti di pace di Parigi e il loro fallimento. Le crisi del primo dopoguerra. La nascita e l’avvento del fascismo. La grande crisi di Wall Street del 1929. L’avvento del nazismo e la seconda guerra mondiale. Lo sterminio degli ebrei. La fine del ruolo centrale dell’Europa e l’emergere degli Stati Uniti e dell’Unione Sovietica. La repubblica in Italia e il suo ssitema partitico. La divisione della Germania, dell’Europa e del mondo. La guerra fredda e il conflitto Usa-Urss. Il processo d’integrazione europea e la ripresa economica dei Paesi dell’Europa occidentale. La decolonizzazione e il sorgere dei nuovi Stati in Africa e in Asia. La distensione. L’uomo nello spazio e sulla luna. Il 1968. Le difficoltà dei due blocchi contrapposti e il riemergere della guerra fredda. Gli Stati Uniti di Reagan e l’Unione Sovietica da Breznev a Gorbaciov. La riunificazione della Germania. Il crollo dell’Urss edei regimi comunisti nell’Europa centro-orientale. Il nuovo assetto europeo e mondiale. L’Unione Europea. Il mondo multipolare e le difficoltà degli Stati Uniti.

    Course objectives

    The course aims to provide the students with the basics of contemporary history by encouraging the development of a critical and autonomous analysis capacity.

    Interest in learning contemporary history

    Teaching methods

    Lectures, the students will also take advantage of the use of audiovisual tools: widespread images and documentaries with interventions by historians and witnesses; student attendance at conferences and seminars.

    Evaluation methods

    Oral. Exam assessment is based on the overall level of student performance which takes into account knowledge of course content and clarity, accuracy and appropriacy of language use.

    Other information

    Students who follow the lessons can still agree with the professor for an alternative text. Historical geographic maps and other useful material will also be distributed such as texts of international treaties or short writings by protagonists

    Post-Napoleonic Europe and the Treaty of Vienna. The Restoration. The industrial revolution and the birth of modern industry. The revolutionary wave of 1830-1831 and the revolutions of 1848. The collapse of the Vienna system and the birth of Italian and German unitary national states. The American Civil War and the rise of the United States. The great scientific, medical and industrial progress at the end of the eighteenth century. The European imperialism and the apogee of the European powers in the world. The difficulties of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Tsarist Empire and the decline of the Ottoman Empire. The First World War and the collapse of 4 Empires. The Soviet revolution and the birth of the USSR. The peace treaties of Paris and their failure. The post-war crises. The birth and the advent of fascism. The Great Wall Street Crisis of 1929. The advent of Nazism and the Second World War. The extermination of the Jews. The end of the central role of Europe and the emergence of the United States and the Soviet Union. The republic in Italy and its party system. The division of Germany, Europe and the world. The Cold War and the Usa-Urss conflict. The European integration process and the economic recovery of Western European countries. The decolonization and the emergence of new states in Africa and Asia. Détente. Space exploration: Man in space and on the moon. 1968. The difficulties of the two opposing blocks and the re-emergence of the Cold War. The United States of Reagan and the Soviet Union from Breznev to Gorbachev. Reunification of Germany. The collapse of the USSR and communist regimes in central and eastern Europe.
